Becoming Self-Sufficient

Clackmannan Development Trust are committed to being here to support the people of Clackmannan for the years to come. To enable this to happen, the Trust are working to develop a social enterprise, so that we can generate our own income to become more sustainable and less grant dependent for the future.

The Story

In autumn 2018, the Trust were accepted to Community Enterprise’s accelerator programme – who carried out some initial consultation and market research into the possibility of developing a bunkhouse and activity area in Clackmannan. In March 2019, the trust were awarded funding for Community Enterprise to carry out a full feasibility study and business plan. You can view the feasibility study below.

Engagement Events: 3 x Public Meetings, 1 x Business Forum, 2x Stakeholder meeting, 1x Fun day and a month long community survey.

On 9th October 2019, a Public Meeting was held in the Church Hall to share the results with the community and partners as well as the trust’s plan to take the development forward.

Future plans & Getting Involved

This project had to take a pause during 2020 due to the pandemic, but since the start of 2021 we have been back working on this again with the consultants, advisors and stakeholders.

We have submitted a joint funding application with Clackmannanshire Council to hopefully bring a world class pump track to the community and an Active Travel Bunkhouse Enterprise Hub which we hope will provide a bike workshop along with e-charge points facility for car and bikes. This is the first phase of our plan and our second will be to develop bunkhouse accommodation.

We are in talks to borrow a temporary pump track so that we can get a feel for what works in our community this summer. We hope to visit our friends at Wishaw Pump Track and Comrie Croft for our young people to experience their pump tracks. *subject to covid restrictions.

We plan to host a public meeting later this year to share the progress and hopefully get our young people involved too.

If you are interested in this project and would like to find out more please contact us.

We also have volunteer opportunities for anyone who would like to be involved with the project. You can view the latest volunteer positions here.
